Spiced with cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg, the thinly sliced apples of our Easy Cinnamon Sugar Apple Galette sits on top of a flaky crust, making it a cozy, comforting end to any meal. Delight in a sweet alternative to traditional apple pie crust and a delicious way to use any apple harvest. Dollop a scoop of ice cream on top and you're in for a real treat!
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine flour, butter, sugar, and salt in a food processor and pulse until pea-sized crumbles form. Slowly begin to pour in ice-cold water until a rough dough begins to form. Place dough on a well-floured work surface and press together until the crumbles begin to stick together and form the dough for the pie crust. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. (If you do not want to make your own pie crust, you can use store-bough and skip this step.)
- Thinly slice apples. Add to a bowl and squeeze lemon on top. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar and cinnamon and nutmeg whisk and sprinkle on top of apples, ensuring all slices are coated.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Roll dough out onto a well-floured work surface. Using a rolling pin, roll dough out into a large square, about 12 x 12 inches. Place dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place apples on top of crust in sets of 4, alternating directions (you do not have to do this, you can simply place the apples on top of the crust in any way that you like!). Leave about 1 inch around the perimeter of the galette. This will make it so that you can fold the dough on top of the apples.
- Cut 4 tbsp of butter into cubes and place on top of the apples. Fold the dough over the apples.
- Beat the egg and brush over the dough. Sprinkle coarse sugar on top of the egg if you’d like. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until dough is golden and flaky, and apples have softened.
- Enjoy with ice cream or caramel on top—or both!
A popular pastry hailing from the hills of France, the Apple Galette is a perfect spring and summer dessert with it's light, sweet flavor and texture. You can also caramelize the apples and stack them in the center of a more traditional apple pie like our Chai-Spiced Apple Pie and revel in the aroma of Indian tea. Or take your dessert on the rocks, with our Creamy Apple Caramel Cocktail. These apple dessert recipes are perfect for a dinner party as much as they are to be enjoyed on a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
